Bring me in to teach

For more than a decade I’ve been teaching at quilt shops, quilt guilds and national events. There have been hundreds of workshops along the way and I’d love to add you to mix.

Check out the workshops and lectures I have available and remember that I can tailor the presentation for what works best for your audience. I am currently booking for late 2026 and 2027.

Lectures:

Quilted Clothing and Patchwork Apparel: Quilts often stay on the guest bed or in the cedar chest, but it’s time to take your quilty nature and bring it into your wardrobe. We’ll talk about ways to incorporate your piecing and quilting skills into coats, dresses, tops, bags, and shoes, with lots of inspiring examples.

Quilt Coats–Wearing Our Heart on Our Sleeve: An overview of the history of quilted outerwear, from the 1300s to modern-day, with a deep dive into ways of personalizing your coat in ways that will let you share your love of quilting with everyone you meet. We’ll discuss best practices and material types.

Adding Quirk to Your Quilt: You make quilts with more than just cotton! Combining different fabric types to add dimension, texture, wearability and design is simple if you understand more about the fabric types, the techniques to wrangle them and the tools to make it easy. We’ll discuss using upcycled clothing, denim, minky, sheer fabrics, knits, and more.

Workshops:

Quilt to Coat: Learn how to take a quilt, quilted fabric (or even a tablecloth!) and make it into a coat you’ll love to wear. We’ll use my Elemental Coat pattern to work through each step with guidance on techniques and best practices, including ways to truly personalize them with custom piecing.

This workshop can be presented as a 6-hr workshop with no binding or customization OR as two 6-hr workshops where students leave with a completed coat, including binding and customization. Each includes a one-hour Zoom session 2-4 weeks before class to prepare students and answer questions so they can be ready to cut and sew their coats in class.

Make Your Own Stuffed Animal: We treasure them from our childhood and now you can learn to make them yourself. We’ll talk about using different types of fabrics and fillings, including the pros and cons of each, as well as techniques and tools to make it accessible to anyone. Organizer will choose from a limited selection of Funky Friends Factory and Rustic Horseshoe patterns; everyone will use the same stuffed animal pattern,.

I took a two-day class with Teresa earlier this month. She was fabulous! I finished the first coat in class. It’s made from a quilt that my great-grandmither pieced and my grandmother had quilted; my own wearable hug. I cut the second one out in class and am almost finished with it—sleeve trim and snaps to go. I’m relatively new to garment sewing, and I love the Elemental Coat pattern!
