Quilt Coats at Rae-Bon

This past weekend, I was able to spend two days with Sandy and Jennifer from Rae-Bon Quilt & Sew in Fargo, ND and we had such a great time with everyone. What a fab group of ladies willing to try new things and learn new techniques. And, as always, I’m so impressed with the students and their wonderful Elemental Coats. Here are just a few…

Above: She found this quilt at a thrift store for just $25! It had a very thick batting, which made it extra warm, but also made it necessary to use a walking foot. Check out how she was able to keep the binding intact and create a zigzag hem to both the jacket and the sleeves!

Left: She created her quilt from scratch and the modern design gives the quilt a contemporary, yet classic look. [Comment below if you know the name/designer of the quilt pattern–I’d like to include it.]

This new sewist whipped up a fabulous quilt coat, using a bedspread she found on Facebook Marketplace for $20. We were able to retain the binding on most of the coat, then repurposed binding from the remainder for the collar and neckline. Absolutely adorable and the coat already has the soft, worn in feeling of a favorite coat.

Whether you’re using a vintage quilt, new quilt or bedspread, you can make a quilt coat you’ll love. ❤️ I’m off to Langdon, ND next for another day of quilt coats, so until then…

Happy sewing!
