Hi, I’m teresa coates
… a pattern designer, sewing educator, and lifelong adventurer.
I’ve spent the last decade-plus helping folks turn their piles of fabric into usable, wearable things (instead of just lovingly hoarding them). I’m probably best known for my quilt coat patterns, which are cozy, patchwork-filled excuses to wear your quilts out in public & look fabulous doing it.

Along the way, I’ve designed quilt patterns that balance modern style with just enough challenge to keep things interesting. My quilts been featured at QuiltCon and Road to California, with my Dare My Things quilt doing the heavy lifting.
I’ve taught in quilt shops, at retreats, and for guilds around the country—always with the goal of making sewing less intimidating, more approachable, and (honestly) way more fun. I believe in wearing what you make, breaking a few “rules” in the name of creativity, and that perfection is overrated.
When I’m not teaching, designing, or dreaming of road trips, you’ll find me stitching something I don’t need, drinking too much coffee, and pretending I’m going to finish a UFO before starting something new.
Want to bring me to your shop or guild? I’d love to teach your group how to quilt it, cut it, and wear it. Let’s make something rad.
