Zigging

I’ve intended to make a quilt for my nephew Nate for years now, but it’s always one thing or another that stops me from getting to it. For the last few months, even though I had samples of this fantastic fabric collection (Launch by Lesley Grainger for Robert Kaufman Fabrics), I really didn’t know what to do with with. So it said in the closet along with the navy blue Dear Stella fabric and fat quarters of red Kona Cotton, just waiting for inspiration.

Then I remembered the zigzag quilt made by Thomas Knauer. I’d seen it at Market and loved it. I just had to track down the magazine that it was being featured in; luckily I found it at the local Freddie’s: American Patchwork and Quilting (see the cover here on Thomas’ blog).

And with that I was off, cutting 3.75″ squares, then sewing scads of half-square triangles and finally piecing some rows. 20120703-080642.jpg

If I didn’t have the wall quilt project competing for time, I’d probably finish it this weekend. By the end of the month, though, I’m quite sure of it.
